Millennium

Preacher:
Series:
Passage: Revelation 20
Service Type:

PEACE AT LAST! The first step toward peace is to remove the devil from the scene and the next is to see Christ, the King of Kings in charge, accompanied by His saints.

Rev 20:1 “Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
Rev 20:2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;
Rev 20:3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.
Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then [I saw] the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received [his] mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This [is] the first resurrection.
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy [is] he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
Rev 20:7 Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison” NKJV

“MILLENNIUM” is the Latin word for 1,000 years. Christ will be on the throne of His father, David, ruling over the redeemed of all generations. The term “thousand years” occurs six times in the six verses of Rev 20:2-7 stressing the reality and importance of that period of time.

There will be a resurrection before the Millennium (Old Testament saints and Tribulation saints), and after the Millennium (Unsaved of all generations for the Great White Throne judgment). The saints of the Church age will be raised at the Rapture and return with Christ at His Second Coming before the Millennium.

The Millennium will begin about 75 days after the end of the Tribulation, giving time for the cleansing of the earth by the scavenger birds and also for the resurrection of the saints. (Dan 12:12 “Blessed [is] he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.”)

Who will enter the millennium?

The redeemed of all time who have died will enter the millennium in their glorified bodies, whether Old Testament saints, New Testament saints, or those who died in the Tribulation period. There will also enter believers who did not die during the Tribulation, but will enter the millennium in their corruptible bodies and will repopulate the earth.

What will the millennium be like?

Isa 54:12-17 I will make your pinnacles of rubies, Your gates of crystal, And all your walls of precious stones.
Isa 54:13 All your children [shall be] taught by the LORD, And great [shall be] the peace of your children.
Isa 54:14 In righteousness you shall be established; You shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; And from terror, for it shall not come near you.
Isa 54:15 Indeed they shall surely assemble, [but] not because of Me. Whoever assembles against you shall fall for your sake.
Isa 54:16 "Behold, I have created the blacksmith Who blows the coals in the fire, Who brings forth an instrument for his work; And I have created the spoiler to destroy.
Isa 54:17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue [which] rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This [is] the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness [is] from Me," Says the LORD.

Since there will be many believers who pass from the Tribulation to the Millennium with their temporal bodies and sinful nature, a multitude of true and of false believers will be produced, especially if we take into consideration their great longevity similar to that of Genesis (Jared 962 years and Methuselah 969 years).

Isaiah 33:24 “And the inhabitant will not say “I am sick”; the people who dwell in it will be forgiven their iniquity.” There will be neither sickness nor any resulting death; however, rebellion required the death penalty so deaths would occur.

Isa.65:20-25 "No more shall an infant from there [live but a few] days, Nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days; For the child shall die one hundred years old, But the sinner [being] one hundred years old shall be accursed. They shall build houses and inhabit [them]; They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They shall not build and another inhabit; They shall not plant and another eat; For as the days of a tree, [so shall be] the days of My people, And My elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labor in vain, Nor bring forth children for trouble; For they [shall be] the descendants of the blessed of the LORD, And their offspring with them. It shall come to pass That before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear. The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, The lion shall eat straw like the ox, And dust [shall be] the serpent's food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, Says the LORD.” nkjv

Jesus called this the “regeneration”.
Mat 19:28 So Jesus said to them, "Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Israel will lead the world in true worship and fulfill their original assignment of worldwide witness.
Exodus 19:5-6 “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth [is] Mine.
And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”

All nations will come to Jerusalem every year to worship Christ.
Zec 14:16 And it shall come to pass [that] everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.

Some of the good things we will see during the Millennium are a perfect King, perfect judges, perfect peace, friendly animals, Feast of Tabernacles (Like family camp), enjoyable work, labor not in vain, etc.

What is the one bad thing? People will be born with the Old Adamic Sin Nature. Some who are born in the Millennium will rebel openly and die, while others will quietly await their opportunity to overthrow Christ’s kingdom.

Isa 11:4 But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.

As we look at prophesy we must differentiate between prophecies that refer to the Millennium (which take place here on our present earth and including some people still in their corruptible bodies) and the prophecies that refer to the everlasting reign of Christ in the new heaven and new earth containing only transformed saints and having neither births nor deaths.

The final revolt

Rev 20:7-9 “Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number [is] as the sand of the sea. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.”

Satan’s final judgment

Rev 20:10 “The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet [are]. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”

Certainly no one could say that Satan had not been given sufficient opportunities to repent of his rebellion and submit to God. In the end he will receive the judgment that he himself knowingly chose, but will continue to blame God anyway.
